GRANDMA'S SECRET APPLE BROWNIES!

Grandma's Secret Apple Brownies! image

These apple bars belong smack-dab in the delicious intersection of breakfast and dessert... the two most important meals of the day! We're not sure if these are classified a brownie. To us, they have the texture of a brownie. But they're divine. Once baked, a sugary crust forms on top. There are bits of tender apples and cinnamon...

Time 1h10m

Number Of Ingredients 9

3 c all-purpose flour
3 c apples
2 c sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp baking soda
1/3 c orange juice
2 eggs
1 c vegetable oil
1 tsp salt

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 325. Grease and flour 9x13 pan.
  • 2. Peel and core about 3 to 4 apples. Finely chop apples (you want the pieces small).
  • 3. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Whisk together.
  • 4. Add eggs, oil, and orange juice. Mix well. I use a wooden spoon to mix.
  • 5. Fold in diced apples (the batter will be thick).
  • 6. Spread into the prepared baking pan.
  • 7. Bake at 325 for approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  • 8. Eat and enjoy!

Tips:

  • For the perfect chewy texture, don't overmix the batter. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • To prevent the brownies from sticking to the pan, grease and flour the pan before pouring in the batter.
  • For fudgy brownies, use melted butter instead of vegetable oil.
  • To add extra flavor, try adding chopped nuts, chocolate chips, or dried fruit to the batter.
  • For a crispy crust, bake the brownies for a few minutes longer.
  • If you want to make ahead, bake the brownies and then store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.

Conclusion:

Aunt Essie's apple brownies are a classic dessert that is easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. These brownies are moist, chewy, and full of apple flavor. With just a few simple ingredients, you can make a batch of these delicious brownies that will be enjoyed by people of all ages.
