Number Of Ingredients 10

1 (2 lb) flat iron steak
2 ½ tbsps olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp chopped fresh parsley
¼ tsp chopped fresh rosemary
½ tsp chopped fresh chives
¼ c Cabernet Sauvignon
½ tsp salt
¾ tsp ground black pepper
¼ tsp dry mustard powder

Steps:

  • Mix olive oil, Cabernet, mustard powder, garlic, chives, parsley, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Put the steak inside of a large, resealable bag and pour the marinade mixture over the bag. Before sealing, press on the bag to remove as much air as possible. Place bag in the refrigerator to marinate for 2-3 hours.
  • Heat a nonstick skillet on medium-high heat. Add the steak and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side. (Medium-rare is recommended for the best taste.) ASIAN FLAIR FLAT IRON STEAK

Asian Flair Flat Iron Steak image

One of our local food distributors has been promoting the sell of these becoming-ever-more-popular cuts of meat. After rummaging online recipes, and experimenting with my own, I came up with the following that my husband and I find quite tasty! You can also try cooking it in your indoor grill (we have a Foreman). Serve this over salad greens, or wrap in warm flour tortillas, adding a bit of your favorite Asian dressing.

Time 12h30m

Yield 3

Number Of Ingredients 13

2 tablespoons sesame oil
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
1 teaspoon green hot pepper sauce
2 teaspoons soy sauce
1 teaspoon teriyaki sauce
2 teaspoons brown sugar
12 ounces flat iron steaks
3 tablespoons sesame oil
½ red bell pepper, sliced
2 green onions, chopped

Steps:

  • Whisk together 2 tablespoons of sesame oil with the garlic, salt, onion powder, Cajun seasoning, hot pepper sauce, soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, and brown sugar in a bowl, then pour into a resealable plastic bag. Add the flat iron steak, coat with the marinade, squeeze out excess air, and seal the bag. Marinate in the refrigerator for 12 hours.
  • Remove the flat iron steak from the marinade, and shake off excess. Discard the remaining marinade. Heat the remaining 3 tablespoons of sesame oil in a cast iron skillet over medium high heat until it begins to smoke. Sear the steak in the hot oil until cooked to your desired degree of doneness, about 3 minutes per side for medium. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside to rest for 5 minutes before slicing thinly. While the steak is resting, cook the bell pepper in the hot skillet until it begins to soften, about 1 minute. Stir in the green onions, and cook for 30 seconds more. Serve the pepper mixture over the sliced steak.

Tips:

  • Tenderize the Steak: Before cooking, use a meat mallet to tenderize the flat iron steak. This helps break down the tough fibers, resulting in a more tender and flavorful steak.
  • Marinate the Steak: Marinating the steak in a flavorful mixture of soy sauce, ginger, garlic, and brown sugar enhances its taste. Allow the steak to marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight.
  • Cook the Steak Properly: Cook the steak over high heat to quickly sear the outside while keeping the inside juicy and tender. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the steak reaches your desired doneness.
  • Slice the Steak Against the Grain: When slicing the cooked steak, cut against the grain. This makes the steak easier to chew and more tender.
  • Serve with Suggested Sides: Serve the Asian flat iron steak with suggested sides such as steamed jasmine rice, stir-fried vegetables, or a side salad for a complete and balanced meal.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, the Asian flat iron steak is a flavorful and versatile dish that is perfect for a quick and easy weeknight meal. By following these tips, you can create a tender, juicy, and delicious steak that your family and friends will love. Experiment with different marinades and sides to find your favorite combination.
