THE BEST HOMEMADE APPLESAUCE
After tasting the pure apple flavor of this homemade sauce, you just might never go back to the store-bought kind. Supermarket applesauce can be loaded with added sweeteners and flavorings. We use only a little sugar, plus lemon juice, salt and cinnamon, providing a balanced flavor and the perfect amount of sweetness.

Steps:
- Combine the apples, sugar, 1 cup water and 1/2 teaspoon salt in a large pot. Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally. Reduce the heat to medium-low. Cover with a tight-fitting lid and cook until the apples are very soft, 18 to 20 minutes.
- Stir in the lemon juice and cinnamon. Let cool for 5 minutes or so, then transfer the apple mixture to a blender, filling no more than halfway. Remove the center cap from the lid and place it on the blender. Cover the lid with a folded kitchen towel to catch splatters and pulse until smooth. Alternatively, puree in the pan with an immersion blender.
- Transfer the applesauce to a bowl and refrigerate until cool, about 1 hour. Store leftover applesauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
APPLESAUCE TURNOVERS....SORT OF
I had made up a batch of Applesauce, just chopped up 4 red and 4 green apples, skins and all, sprinkled with cinnamon, cooked in the microwave and blended until smooth, and a batch of yogurt cream cheese, mixed that with some yogurt butter and had some crescent rolls on hand.....turned out way yummy and wanted to share. This is NOT a sugary sweet treat...unless you want it to be

Steps:
- Combine the lemon and 4 cups water in a large bowl. Place the sliced apples in the water to keep them from browning.
- Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Drain water from apples, and place them into the hot skillet. Cook and stir for about 2 minutes. Add brown sugar, and cinnamon, and cook, stirring, for 2 more minutes. Stir together cornstarch and 1 tablespoon water. Pour into the skillet, and mix well. Cook for another minute, or until sauce has thickened. Remove from heat to cool slightly.
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
- Unfold puff pastry sheets, and repair any cracks by pressing them back together. Trim each sheet into a square. Then cut each larger square into 4 smaller squares. Spoon apples onto the center of each squares. Fold over from corner to corner into a triangle shape, and press edges together to seal. Place turnovers on a baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch between them.
- Bake for 25 minutes in the preheated oven, until turnovers are puffed and lightly browned. Cool completely before glazing.
- To make the glaze, mix together the confectioners' sugar, milk and vanilla in a small bowl. Adjust the thickness by adding more sugar or milk if necessary. Drizzle glaze over the cooled turnovers.

Tips:
- Use a sharp knife to cut the apples into small pieces. This will help them cook evenly.
- If you don't have a pastry brush, you can use your fingers to brush the egg wash onto the turnovers.
- Be careful not to overfill the turnovers. Too much filling will make them difficult to seal and they may burst open during baking.
- If you don't have a baking sheet, you can use a large frying pan instead.
- Sprinkle the turnovers with cinnamon sugar before baking for a sweet and crunchy topping.
- Serve the turnovers warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Conclusion:
Applesauce turnovers are a delicious and easy-to-make treat that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dessert. With their flaky crust and sweet apple filling, they're sure to be a hit with everyone who tries them. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy recipe, give these applesauce turnovers a try.
