WALNUT BROWNIES
I LEARNED to make these brownies in 1957 in home economics class. They were the first goodies I'd ever baked by myself. Now, 40 years later, I still make a batch occasionally. The recipe calls for basic ingredients on hand in most every kitchen, and the rich chocolate flavor is delicious. -Lorraine Silver, Chicopee, Massachusetts

APPLE-WALNUT COOKIES
I've gotten into the habit of baking a dozen or so cookies to eat now and then freezing what remains for another day. Whether you're having a dinner party, last-minute guests, or just want a spur-of-the-moment treat, always having homemade cookies on hand--instead of a box of store-bought cookies that will be stale within a week--is just about the coziest thing ever.

Tips:
- Use a combination of flours for a denser brownie: Try mixing all-purpose flour with oat flour or almond flour for a richer texture.
- Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing can make your brownies tough. Stir just until the ingredients are combined.
- Use a variety of nuts: Walnuts are a classic choice for brownies, but you can also use pecans, almonds, or hazelnuts.
- Add some fruit: Apples, pears, and berries are all great additions to brownies. They add sweetness, moisture, and flavor.
- Use a water bath for fudgy brownies: Baking your brownies in a water bath helps them stay moist and fudgy. Fill a larger pan with hot water and place your brownie pan inside.
- Don't overbake your brownies: Brownies are best when they are slightly underbaked. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out with just a few moist crumbs attached.
Conclusion:
Apple walnut brownies are a delicious and versatile treat. They are easy to make and can be customized to your liking. With a few simple tips, you can make the perfect brownies every time.
