WALNUT, RAISIN, APPLE BARS
I made these yesterday and took them to a Labor Day Cookout and everyone thought they were delicious. I got the recipe from Family Circle Magazine, but I made a few changes. It called for dried apples but I used fresh ones and it didn't have walnuts in it, which I think goes so well with apples. This is going to be a keeper

APPLE WALNUT BREAKFAST BARS
Easy and delicious breakfast bar (healthy too!). They are no-bake. I usually use Raisin Bran or Bran Flakes for the cereal part, but Corn flakes, cheerios, or even rice krispies would be great. From BHG.

APPLE-WALNUT BARS
Steps:
- Preheat oven to 300 degrees F. Coat an 8-by-12-inch baking dish with cooking spray. Process graham crackers and cinnamon in a food processor until you have fine crumbs. Leaving about 1/2 cup in the workbowl, transfer the crumbs to another container. Add apples to the workbowl and process until coarsely chopped. Combine sugar, egg whites, egg, vanilla and salt in a large bowl. Beat with an electric mixer on high speed until thick, about 3 minutes. Fold in the apple mixture and walnuts just until combined. Transfer batter to the prepared baking dish; smooth the top with a wet rubber spatula. Bake until the top feels dry and a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean, 30 to 35 minutes. Let cool completely on a wire rack. Dust lightly with confectioners' sugar and cut into 15 bars.
Tips:
- Mise en place: Before you start baking, make sure you have all the ingredients and equipment you need. This will help you stay organized and avoid scrambling around looking for things while you're in the middle of baking.
- Use fresh, high-quality ingredients: The better the ingredients you use, the better your bars will taste. Opt for fresh, ripe apples and walnuts, and use high-quality butter and flour.
- Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing the batter will make the bars tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
- Bake the bars until they are golden brown: The bars are done baking when a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Don't overbake them, or they will be dry.
- Let the bars cool completely before cutting them: This will help them to hold their shape and prevent them from crumbling.
