SWEET TART WALDORF APPLE SALAD
This salad is a combination of a fruit dip recipe I learned last week and an apple salad I saw in the grocery store. It was enough inspiration to come up with this delicious recipe for our cook-out this afternoon! I have two boys and a daycare and would recommend this recipe as super-simple to make with kids. Children love chopping apples (even littles can do this with a butter knife) and mixing the dressing. I used ¾ of my dressing and reserved the rest to use as fruit dip later.

CARROT-APPLE WALDORF SALAD
This recipe is from Cooking Light Cookbook 1994. I love any type of Waldorf salad! And, if it is lighter than normal, that is a plus. Only slightly tweaked, to give options. Photo from friend & member Lisa Nicometi Garrow. Prep time, does not include refrigerator time.

Tips:
- Use a variety of apples. This will give your salad a more complex flavor and texture. Some good choices include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Gala apples.
- Chop the apples into small pieces. This will help them to absorb the dressing better and make them easier to eat.
- Use fresh grapes. Grapes add a sweetness and juiciness to the salad. If you don't have fresh grapes, you can use canned grapes, but be sure to drain them well.
- Use toasted walnuts. Toasting the walnuts brings out their flavor and makes them more crunchy. You can toast walnuts in a toaster oven or in a skillet over medium heat.
- Make the dressing ahead of time. This will give the flavors time to meld together. You can store the dressing in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
Conclusion:
Apple Waldorf salad is a classic salad that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own preferences. With its sweet, crunchy, and creamy flavors, Apple Waldorf salad is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it.
