Finally, my husband pronounced the results as good as he remembered, and we declared it the "official" recipe. -Joan Kasura, Silver Spring, Maryland

APPLE SPICE RICE

Categories     Apple

Yield 4 Servings

Number Of Ingredients 7

3 tablespoons butter
1 cup long grain rice
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
1 clove garlic, minced
1 small tart apple - peeled, cored and diced
1/2 cup golden raisins
1 1/2 cups chicken broth

Steps:

  • Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in rice, onion, garlic, apple and raisins. Saute for 3 to 4 minutes. Stir in chicken broth, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 16 to 18 minutes, or until liquid is absorbed.

Tips:

  • Choose the right rice: Basmati or jasmine rice are good choices for this recipe, as they have a light, fluffy texture that pairs well with the spices and apples.
  • Use fresh, crisp apples: Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples are good choices, as they hold their shape well when cooked and have a tart flavor that complements the spices.
  • Don't overcook the rice: The rice should be cooked until it is tender but still has a slight bite to it. Overcooked rice will be mushy and unpleasant.
  • Let the rice rest before serving: This will allow the flavors to meld and the rice to absorb any excess liquid.
  • Serve the rice warm: Apple spice rice is best served warm, so that the flavors are at their peak.

Conclusion:

Apple spice rice is a delicious and versatile dish that can be served as a side dish or a main course. It is perfect for fall gatherings, as it is both comforting and festive. With its sweet and savory flavors, apple spice rice is sure to be a hit with everyone at your table.
