Number Of Ingredients 8

1 tablespoon butter
1/8 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup chopped granny smith apple
2 cups apple juice
2 cups uncooked rice
1 cup chicken broth
1/2 teaspoon ground thyme
1/2 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Saute onions and apple in butter until tender. Add apple juice and bring to a boil.
  • Add rice, salt, and thyme and simmer on low for 15 minutes or until almost done. Add broth and simmer until absorbed.

Tips for the Best Apple Rice Pilaf:

  • Choose the right rice: Long-grain rice, such as basmati or jasmine, works best for pilaf because it cooks up light and fluffy.
  • Rinse the rice thoroughly: This removes the starch from the rice, which helps to prevent it from sticking together.
  • Use a flavorful broth: Chicken, vegetable, or beef broth all add a lot of flavor to the pilaf. You can also use water, but the pilaf will be less flavorful.
  • Sauté the rice in butter or oil before adding the broth: This helps to toast the rice and give it a nutty flavor.
  • Add some aromatics to the pilaf: Onions, garlic, and ginger are all great options. You can also add other vegetables, such as carrots, celery, or bell peppers.
  • Season the pilaf to taste: Salt, pepper, and cumin are all good starting points. You can also add other spices, such as cardamom, cinnamon, or nutmeg.
  • Let the pilaf rest before serving: This allows the rice to absorb all of the flavors from the broth and spices.

Conclusion:

Apple rice pilaf is a delicious and easy-to-make side dish that is perfect for any occasion. It is a great way to use up leftover rice, and it can also be made with fresh rice.
