SNOW-PUFFED MERINGUES
My family and friends like a nice pick-me-up dessert after a big holiday meal. These feather-light morsels fit the bill perfectly. To make six dozen cookies, or to make them easier to ship, skip the Nutella and dust with cocoa instead. -Lorraine Caland, Shuniah, Ontario

Steps:
- Beat 2 egg whites until soft peaks form.
- Add sugar, cream of tartar, and salt; beat until stiff.
- Fold in chocolate chips and pecans.
- Drop by teaspoonfuls onto a cookie sheet lined with wax paper.
- Bake at 300 degrees for 20 minutes.
Tips:
- Choose the right apples: Granny Smith apples are the best choice for this recipe because they hold their shape well and have a tart flavor that complements the sweet meringue.
- Peel and core the apples evenly: This will help them cook evenly and prevent the meringue from browning too much.
- Use a sharp knife to cut the apples into thin slices: This will help them cook quickly and evenly.
- Don't overcrowd the pan when cooking the apples: This will prevent them from steaming and becoming soggy.
- Cook the apples until they are tender but still hold their shape: This will prevent them from becoming mushy.
- Make sure the meringue is stiff before spreading it on the apples: This will prevent it from running off the apples and making a mess.
- Bake the apple puffs until the meringue is golden brown: This will give them a delicious and crispy topping.
Conclusion:
Apple puffs with meringue are a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that is perfect for any occasion.
