Indulge in a delightful culinary creation that harmoniously blends the classic flavors of apple pie and cinnamon rolls into a single, irresistible dish: the Apple Pie Cinnamon Roll Casserole. This unique casserole seamlessly integrates the comforting warmth of apple pie with the gooey, decadent goodness of cinnamon rolls, resulting in a symphony of flavors that will tantalize your taste buds.

The recipe begins with a base of refrigerated cinnamon rolls, providing a soft and fluffy foundation for the casserole. Sliced apples, tossed in a mixture of sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg, are then arranged over the cinnamon rolls, infusing the casserole with a sweet and tangy apple filling. A delectable cream cheese mixture, made from softened cream cheese, sugar, vanilla extract, and an egg, is then poured over the apples, adding a layer of rich, creamy flavor.

To complete this culinary masterpiece, a delectable streusel topping, crafted from a combination of flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and butter, is sprinkled over the casserole, creating a golden-brown, crumbly crust. As the casserole bakes in the oven, the aromas of apples, cinnamon, and cream cheese fill the air, promising a delightful treat.

This versatile recipe also offers variations to suit your preferences. For those who prefer a more traditional apple pie flavor, a homemade apple pie filling can be used instead of the sliced apples. Additionally, the cream cheese layer can be omitted for a simpler, yet equally delicious, cinnamon roll casserole.

Whether you're a fan of classic apple pie, indulgent cinnamon rolls, or simply seeking a unique and flavorful breakfast or dessert, the Apple Pie Cinnamon Roll Casserole is sure to satisfy your cravings. With its perfect balance of sweetness, spice, and texture, this casserole is a true culinary delight that will be cherished by all who taste it.

Number Of Ingredients 8

3 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced
½ cup brown sugar
½ cup maple syrup, divided
3 teaspoons ground cinnamon, divided
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
½ cup milk
2 large eggs
2 (17.5 ounce) cans refrigerated cinnamon roll dough with icing

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Place diced apples in a large skillet over medium heat with brown sugar, 1/2 cup maple syrup, 2 teaspoons cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix together and simmer until apples are tender, 10 to 15 minutes. Drain apples and set aside.
  • Meanwhile, whisk milk, eggs, and remaining 1 teaspoon cinnamon together in a bowl.

  • Bake in the preheated oven until the top is golden brown and puffy, 30 to 35 minutes.
  • Heat 2 icing packets in the microwave for 5 to 10 seconds; drizzle over the casserole. Serve immediately.

Tips:

  • Use fresh apples: Fresh apples provide the best flavor and texture for this casserole. If you're using store-bought apples, be sure to choose ones that are firm and tart, such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp.
  • Peel and slice the apples thinly: This will help them cook evenly and prevent them from becoming mushy.
  • Use a good quality cinnamon roll dough: This is the base of the casserole, so it's important to choose one that you like. If you don't have time to make your own, you can use store-bought cinnamon roll dough.
  • Don't overcook the casserole: The cinnamon rolls should be cooked through, but they should still be soft and fluffy. Overcooking will make them dry and tough.
  • Serve the casserole warm: This is the best way to enjoy the flavors and textures of the dish.

Conclusion:

Apple pie cinnamon roll casserole is a delicious and easy-to-make breakfast or brunch dish. It's perfect for a crowd, and it can be made ahead of time. With its sweet and gooey filling and flaky crust, this casserole is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it.
