CRUST
2 1/2 c all purpose flour
2 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1 c butter, cold and cut into 1/2" squares
4-6 Tbsp ice water
FILLING
2 medium tart apples
2 Tbsp unsalted butter
1/4 c sugar
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
TOPPING
2 Tbsp butter, unsalted and melted
1/2 c sugar
2 Tbsp cinnamon

Steps:

  • 1. Crust- Whisk flour, sugar and salt. Add cold butter and mix with pasty blender or fork until mixture resembles coarse meal and the pieces of butter are pea sized. Add 1 tbsp cold water and continue mixing. Continue adding water 1 Tbsp at a time until dough holds together when you pinch it. (you may not need all the water). Wrap dough tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 2 hours.
  • 2. Filling- Preheat oven to 400. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. Cut apples into small pieces(about 1/2 inch). Placed chopped apples and butter in large pan over medium heat. Cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring frequently. Add sugar and cinnamon and continue cooking for another 3-4 minutes.
  • 3. Assemble- Remove chilled dough from refrigerator and place on a clean, well floured surface. Roll out dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Using sharp knife, cut dough into 4 inch squares. Assemble dough scraps and re-roll as needed. Place dough squares on lined pans. Spoon 1 & 1/2 teaspoons apples mixture into center of each square. Fold corners toward center, overlapping corners slightly on top and pinching them together.
  • 4. Brush top of each square with melted butter. And sprinkle top with 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon-sugar.
  • 5. Bake one pan at a time, 14-16 minutes or until crust is golden brown. Cool slightly on pans on wire racks.

Tips:

  • Use a variety of apples. This will give your pie filling a more complex flavor and texture. Some good options include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Braeburn apples.
  • Peel and slice your apples thinly. This will help them cook evenly and prevent them from becoming mushy.
  • Add some spices to your pie filling. This will help to enhance the flavor of the apples. Some good options include cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger.
  • Use a good quality pie crust. This will make a big difference in the overall quality of your pie. You can either make your own pie crust or buy a pre-made one from the store.
  • Don't overfill your pie. This will make it difficult to seal the pie properly and could cause it to leak.
  • Bake your pie until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling. This usually takes about 45-50 minutes.

Conclusion:

Apple pie bundles are a delicious and easy-to-make treat that are perfect for any occasion. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a delicious dessert that your family and friends will love. So next time you're looking for a special treat, give apple pie bundles a try!
