Time 1h25m

Number Of Ingredients 12

24 oz (1 large) challah bread, cut into 2" cubes
8 large eggs
2 c milk
2 c heavy cream
1 c sugar
1/2 c brown sugar packed
2 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
2 tsp vanilla extract
6 Tbsp melted butter
1/2 9" apple pie, cut into large chunks
1 jar(s) 19.5 oz, carmel sauce, or make your own!
1 tsp rum

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a 9" x 13" casserole dish; set aside. Place the bread cubes in a large bowl; set aside.
  • 2. Whisk the eggs, milk, heavy cream, both sugars, cinnamon, and vanilla in a medium-size bowl. Beat until well mixed. Pour the egg mixture and melted butter over the bread and gently toss until most of the egg mixture is absorbed by the bread. Add the apple pie chunks and lightly toss to evenly incorporate
  • 3. Loosely cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 35 minutes. Remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean
  • 4. To prepare the sauce, combine the caramel sauce and the rum in a microwave-safe bowl; microwave for 60-90 seconds, or until warm. Serve over the warm bread pudding.

Tips:

  • Choose the right bread: For a classic bread pudding, use a firm, slightly stale bread like French bread or sourdough. Avoid using soft, fluffy breads like white bread or sandwich bread, as they will become too mushy in the pudding.
  • Use fresh, flavorful apples: The type of apples you use will greatly affect the flavor of your bread pudding. Choose apples that are crisp, juicy, and have a good balance of sweet and tart flavors. Some good options include Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, and Braeburn apples.
  • Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing the batter will make the bread pudding tough. Stir just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Bake the bread pudding in a water bath: This will help to keep the bread pudding moist and prevent it from becoming dry.
  • Let the bread pudding cool slightly before serving: This will allow the flavors to meld together and the bread pudding to set.

Conclusion:

Apple pie bread pudding is a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that is perfect for any occasion. With its rich, creamy custard and sweet, tangy apples, it's sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it. So next time you're looking for a special treat, give apple pie bread pudding a try. You won't be disappointed!
