2 large pears (I used Asian pears)
3 organic honey crisp apples (or your preferred apple)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon melted coconut oil
5 tablespoons softened pasture-raised butter, ghee or coconut oil
2 tablespoons maple syrup*
1 cup raw almonds
1/2 cup raw pecans

2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1/4 teaspoon ginger

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Wash and slice the pears and apples and add to a 9-inch baking dish (round or square works)
  • Coat the apples and pears in coconut oil and cinnamon and mix well
  • In a food processor, pulse together the crumb ingredients a few times until a crumb-like dough forms
  • Add the crumb topping on top of the apples and pears and make sure it is covering majority of the dish
  • Bake in oven for 40-45 minutes and serve while warm
  • If topping with ice cream or yogurt, I recommend adding to plate then adding it so it doesn't melt in hot dish

APPLE PEAR CRISP (GLUTEN FREE)

Apple Pear Crisp (Gluten Free) image

I am not gluten intolerant, but I do like to bake with different types of flours. I have made this with more pears than apples, more apples than pears, Asian pears, Bartlett pears, and an assortment of apples. You can vary the amount of sugar depending on the sweetness of the fruit. Add fresh or frozen cranberries for a nice tart addition.

Tips:

  • Choose firm, ripe apples and pears. This will ensure that they hold their shape and don't become mushy during baking.
  • Peel and core the apples and pears. This will make them easier to slice and will also help to prevent the skins from toughening during baking.
  • Slice the apples and pears into thin, even slices. This will help them to cook evenly.
  • Toss the apples and pears with lemon juice. This will help to prevent them from browning.
  • Use a combination of gluten-free flours. This will help to create a crispy topping that is also tender and flavorful.
  • Don't overmix the topping. Overmixing will make the topping tough.
  • Bake the crisp until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling. This will take about 45 minutes.
  • Let the crisp cool for at least 15 minutes before serving. This will allow the filling to set and the flavors to meld.

Conclusion:

This apple pear crisp is a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that is perfect for any occasion. The combination of apples and pears creates a sweet and tart filling, while the gluten-free topping is crispy and flavorful. This recipe is also a great way to use up any leftover apples and pears that you may have on hand. So next time you're looking for a simple and delicious dessert, give this apple pear crisp a try.
