Tips:

  • Choose the right oats. Steel-cut oats or rolled oats work best for oatcakes, as they have a chewier texture than quick-cooking oats.
  • Use a food processor. A food processor makes it easy to combine the oats, flour, and other ingredients until they form a coarse meal.
  • Add moisture gradually. Start by adding a small amount of water or milk to the oat mixture, and then add more as needed until the dough comes together. You don't want the dough to be too wet, or the oatcakes will be difficult to handle.
  • Chill the dough. Chilling the dough for at least 30 minutes before rolling and baking helps the oatcakes hold their shape better.
  • Roll the dough thinly. The thinner you roll the dough, the crispier the oatcakes will be. Aim for a thickness of about 1/8 inch.
  • Bake the oatcakes until they are golden brown. Keep an eye on the oatcakes in the oven, as they can burn easily. Once they are golden brown, remove them from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack.

Conclusion:

Apple oatcakes are a delicious and healthy snack or breakfast option. They are easy to make and can be customized with different toppings and flavors. Whether you enjoy them plain, with butter and jam, or topped with yogurt and fruit, apple oatcakes are sure to become a favorite in your household.
