I love potatoes...especially mashed. When I came up with this combination, it was declared a winner. I serve this as a side dish when I have pork as an entree, but it's great with any meat. -Rebecca Page, Pensacola, Florida

Tips:

  • Choose the right apples: Use firm, tart apples like Granny Smith or Braeburn. They hold their shape well and add a nice tang to the dish.
  • Peel and core the apples: This will help to remove the skin and seeds, which can be tough and unpleasant to eat.
  • Cook the apples until they are soft: You can do this by boiling, baking, or microwaving them. Be sure to keep an eye on them so that they don't overcook and become mushy.
  • Mash the apples with the potatoes: Use a potato masher or a fork to mash the apples and potatoes together until they are well combined.
  • Add seasonings to taste: Common seasonings for apple mashed potatoes include butter, salt, pepper, nutmeg, and cinnamon. You can also add herbs like rosemary or thyme for extra flavor.

Conclusion:

Apple mashed potatoes are a delicious and festive side dish that is perfect for any occasion. They are easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. So next time you are looking for a new way to enjoy mashed potatoes, give apple mashed potatoes a try. You won't be disappointed!
