Time 25m

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 1/2 cups white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup apple cider
1 (12 ounce) package cranberries

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in a saucepan.
  • Bring to a boil over medium high heat.
  • Reduce heat and simmer on medium low heat for 20 minutes or until cranberries pop, stirring occasionally.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cranberries: Fresh or frozen cranberries are both good choices for this recipe. If using frozen cranberries, thaw them before cooking.
  • Use a variety of apples: A combination of sweet and tart apples will give the sauce a complex flavor. Some good choices include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Pink Lady apples.
  • Add some spices: Ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves are all classic spices that complement the flavors of apples and cranberries. You can also add a pinch of ginger or allspice for a more unique flavor.
  • Sweeten to taste: The amount of sugar you add to the sauce will depend on your personal preference. Start with a small amount and add more to taste.
  • Cook the sauce until it thickens: The sauce should be thick enough to coat the back of a spoon. If it's too thin, continue cooking it over low heat until it reaches the desired consistency.

Conclusion:

Apple cider cranberry sauce is a delicious and versatile condiment that can be enjoyed with a variety of dishes. It's perfect for Thanksgiving dinner, but it's also great on pancakes, waffles, and French toast. You can also use it as a glaze for roasted chicken or pork. No matter how you choose to enjoy it, this sauce is sure to be a hit!
