1-1/2 cups water
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon salt
DUMPLINGS:
1-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoons butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup diced peeled tart apples
Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, optional

2 teaspoons plus 1/4 cup sugar, divided
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup shortening
2 eggs
1/4 cup water

7 medium tart apples, peeled and cored
7 tablespoons butter
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
CARAMEL SAUCE:
1 jar (12-1/4 ounces) caramel ice cream topping
1-1/2 cups packed brown sugar
1 cup water
1/4 cup butter, cubed

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, 2 teaspoons sugar and salt; cut in shortening until crumbly. In a small bowl, combine 1 egg, water and vinegar; gradually add to crumb mixture, tossing with a fork until dough forms a ball. Divide into seven portions. , On a lightly floured surface, roll each portion into a 7-in. square. Place an apple on each pastry square; place 1 tablespoon butter in the center of each. 1 recipe pastry for double-crust pie
6 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and cored
½ cup butter
¾ cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
3 cups water
2 cups white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Butter a 9x13 inch pan.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll pastry into a large rectangle, about 24 by 16 inches. Cut into 6 square pieces. Place an apple on each pastry square with the cored opening facing upward. Cut butter into 8 pieces. Place 1 piece of butter in the opening of each apple; reserve remaining butter for sauce. 1 large egg, plus 1 large egg yolk
1 1/2 tablespoons whole milk
4 cups apple cider
