Tips:

  • Use ripe apples. This will give your cookies a more intense apple flavor.
  • Peel and core the apples before cooking them. This will make them easier to mash and will remove the bitter skin.
  • Cook the apples until they are very soft. This will help them blend smoothly into the cookie dough.
  • Add spices to the apple butter. This will give your cookies a warm, autumnal flavor. Common spices used in apple butter include cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice.
  • Use a combination of flours. This will give your cookies a more complex flavor and texture. Whole wheat flour adds a nutty flavor and chewy texture, while all-purpose flour makes the cookies lighter and more tender.
  • Chill the cookie dough before baking. This will help the cookies hold their shape and prevent them from spreading too much.
  • Bake the cookies until they are golden brown around the edges. This will ensure that they are cooked through without being overcooked.
