3 tomatoes, seeded and chopped
1 onion, minced
1 clove garlic, chopped
1/2 teaspoon dried basil

4 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast (from two 1/4-ounce envelopes)
1/4 cup warm water (100 degrees to 110 degrees)

1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 1/2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon coarse salt
2 sticks cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces, plus 1/2 stick butter, melted and cooled, for brushing
2 cups buttermilk
