ANGEL BARS

Angel Bars image

My sister made this recipe this past Christmas, and I demanded that she give me the recipe. Ohhhh, but these are heavenly!! Salty, sweet, peanut buttery, chocolatey--these no-bake bars have it all. Use caution when preparing and serving--they're so good, they're deadly : )

Time 45m

Yield 36 bars, 36 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

72 crackers (Keebler Butter, Club Crackers, Ritz crackers, etc.)
1 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup white sugar
1/2 cup milk
2 cups graham cracker crumbs (make sure they are finely crushed)
2/3 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Line a 9"x13" pan with foil. Spray the foil with non-stick vegetable spray. Put one layer of crackers in the bottom of the pan, side by side (don't overlap).
  • In a small saucepan melt the butter. Add the sugars and the milk. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and keep on a low boil for 5 minutes. Add the graham cracker crumbs, bring to a boil again and boil for 1 full minute.
  • Spread half of the graham cracker mixture over the crackers in the baking pan. Place another layer of crackers on top, and pour the rest of the graham cracker mixture over the crackers. Spread to cover evenly. Top with a third layer of crackers.
  • In a microwave or a bain marie, melt together the peanut butter and the chocolate chips. Spread this mixture evenly over the top of the crackers. Let cool, and then chill in the refrigerator for at least four hours.
  • Cut into serving squares with a knife. This cuts beautifully into nice, sharp squares showing the layers. Enjoy!

Tips:

  • Prepare your ingredients and tools in advance: Measure and gather all ingredients and preheat the oven before you start mixing. Make sure you have the right pans and tools ready.
  • Beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form: Use a clean bowl and beaters to whip the egg whites until they reach a stiff peak stage. This will ensure your angel food bars have a light and airy texture.
  • Fold the egg whites into the batter gently: Use a spatula to gently fold the egg whites into the batter until just combined. Overmixing can deflate the egg whites and make the bars dense.
  • Bake at the right temperature: Bake the angel food bars at the recommended temperature and time to prevent over or underbaking. Keep an eye on the bars towards the end of baking to prevent overbrowning.
  • Let the bars cool completely before frosting: Allow the angel food bars to cool completely before frosting them. This will prevent the frosting from melting and running off the bars.

Conclusion:

Angel food bars are a delicious and versatile dessert that can be enjoyed for various occasions. They are easy to make and can be customized with different flavors and toppings. Whether you prefer a classic vanilla flavor or something more adventurous like chocolate or strawberry, you'll find an angel food bar recipe that suits your taste. So gather your ingredients, preheat your oven, and get ready to bake a batch of these heavenly treats. Enjoy your homemade angel food bars with friends and family, and don't forget to savor every bite!
