Tips:
- For a richer flavor, use whole milk instead of low-fat or skim milk.
- If you don't have buttermilk, you can make your own by adding 1 tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice to 1 cup of regular milk and letting it sit for 5 minutes.
- Be sure to knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic, about 5-7 minutes. This will help to develop the gluten in the dough and make it more chewy.
- Let the dough rise in a warm place until it has doubled in size, about 1-2 hours. This will give the yeast time to work and produce carbon dioxide, which will make the bread light and airy.
- Bake the bread at a high temperature, 375°F, for 30-35 minutes. This will help to create a crispy crust and a soft, fluffy interior.
- Let the bread cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing and serving. This will help to prevent the bread from tearing.
Conclusion:
Amish milk bread is a delicious and versatile bread that can be used for a variety of purposes. It is perfect for sandwiches, toast, and French toast. It can also be used to make bread pudding, croutons, and stuffing. This recipe is easy to follow and produces a delicious, homemade bread that is sure to please everyone at your table.
