Amish Friendship Cake is a unique and delicious dessert with a long and storied history. Its origins can be traced back to the Amish community in the United States, where it was traditionally shared among friends and family as a symbol of love and friendship. The cake is made with a simple batter of flour, sugar, eggs, butter, and spices, and is typically baked in a bundt pan. What sets Amish Friendship Cake apart from other cakes is its unique fermentation process. Before baking, the batter is divided into several portions, each of which is given to a different friend or family member. These portions are then passed around and nurtured over a period of 10 days, with each recipient adding their own special ingredients and returning the batter to the next person on the list. This process not only infuses the cake with a variety of flavors and textures but also symbolizes the bonds of friendship and community. Once all the portions have been returned and combined, the batter is finally baked and enjoyed by all. Amish Friendship Cake is not just a dessert; it is a testament to the power of friendship and the joy of sharing. In this article, we will provide you with the traditional Amish Friendship Cake recipe as well as variations such as Chocolate Amish Friendship Cake, Amish Friendship Bread, and Amish Friendship Cookies, each with its own unique twist on the classic recipe. So gather your friends, share the love, and bake up a delicious Amish Friendship Cake today!

AMISH FRIENDSHIP CAKE

Always save 1 cup of starter for your next cakes, then start with day 2 of the starter instructions instead of having to start a new starter each time. You can also give some starter to friends, or sourdough starter can be used in place of the Friendship Starter.

Starter is enough for 8 loaves.
  • To Make Cakes: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease two 8 or 9 inch loaf pans.
  • Mix 1 cup of the starter, oil, baking powder, eggs, 1 cup of the sugar, 2 cups of the flour, 1/4 teaspoon of the salt, vanilla, and chopped nuts. Stir in the baking soda just before pouring the batter into the prepared pans.

Time 1h30m

Number Of Ingredients 20

1 c amish friendship bread starter
3 eggs
1 c corn oil
1/2 c milk
1 c sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 c ap flour
1/4 c cocoa powder
1 small box instant chocolate pudding mix
2 Tbsp instant coffee granules
1/4 c semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 c nuts chopped (your choice)
IRISH CREAM VANILLA CINNAMON GLAZE
1/2 c butter
1/4 c water
1 c white sugar
1/4 c baileys vanilla cinnamon irish cream liqueur

Steps:

  • 1. Pre heat oven to 325 degrees. Mix brownie ingredients as listed and bring together with an electric mixer until combined
  • 2. Butter and flour a 9x13 baking pan (I like using half flour half coco mix) pour batter into prepared baking pan bake at 325 for 1 hour until brownies start to pull from side of pan and a toothpick comes out semi clean. """"Important""" Let cool completely!!!!!
  • 3. Glaze recipe: In a small sauce pan bring butter, water and sugar to a boil over med heat, continue to boil for 5 min stiring constantly. Remove from heat and add Baileys, stir till combined, drizzle over cake, serve with tall glass of cold milk! Enjoy

Tips:

  • Make sure to use fresh ingredients, especially for the starter. Old or stale ingredients can make the cake dense and heavy.
  • Do not overmix the batter. Overmixing can make the cake tough.
  • Bake the cake in a preheated oven. A cold oven will cause the cake to rise unevenly.
  • Check the cake for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center. If the toothpick comes out clean, the cake is done.
  • Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting it. Frosting a warm cake will cause the frosting to melt.
  • Store the cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. You can also freeze the cake for up to 3 months.

Conclusion:

Amish Friendship Cake is a delicious and easy-to-make cake that is perfect for any occasion. With its moist texture and sweet flavor, this cake is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it. The best part about this cake is that it can be shared with friends and family, making it a great way to spread joy and happiness.
