MICHELLE OBAMA'S SHORTBREAD COOKIES

Michelle Obama's Shortbread Cookies image

I didn't hear about the Presidential Cookie Bake-Off that Family Circle Magazine holds during election years until this year (you can find out more about that on their website). Apparently the spouses of the candidates submit a favorite cookie recipe for people to vote for. When I saw this recipe that Michelle Obama submitted, from a close family friend of hers, I knew I had to make it. I haven't quit making it since - friends, co-workers, and family are always asking for it. When I had my first bite of it out of the oven, I had to cut and wrap them quickly, or else the delicious smell would quite likely have me eating them all myself. This is definitely going on my Christmas cookie platter this year... and every year!

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients: The quality of your ingredients will directly impact the flavor of your cookies. Use real butter, pure vanilla extract, and good-quality amaretto liqueur.
  • Chill the dough before baking: This will help the cookies hold their shape and prevent them from spreading too much.
  • Bake the cookies until they are just set: Overbaking will make the cookies dry and crumbly. Bake them just until the edges are golden brown and the centers are still slightly soft.
  • Let the cookies cool completely before serving: This will allow the flavors to develop and the cookies to firm up.

Conclusion:

Amaretto shortbread cookies are a delicious and easy-to-make treat that are perfect for any occasion. They are buttery, crumbly, and have a delicate almond flavor. These cookies are sure to be a hit with your friends and family.
