This is a wonderfully flavorful summertime (or anytime) beverage. Most any fruit you would like to use (except bananas) will probably work with this recipe. You can even use frozen fruit like peaches and berries (but thaw them, first).

1 (750 milliliter) bottle red wine
½ cup rum
1 lemon, sliced
1 orange, sliced in rounds
1 lime, sliced
1 pint strawberries, hulled and sliced
1 apple, cored and sliced
9 whole cloves
1 liter lemon-lime flavored carbonated beverage

Steps:

  • In a large jar or pitcher combine wine and rum with sliced lemon, orange, lime, and strawberry. Push cloves into apples slices and add to mixture. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight (the longer the better).
  • To serve, pour a tall glass half-full of wine mixture. Fill the rest of the glass with soda and stir gently. Remove cloves from apple slices and garnish drinks by spooning some marinated fruit into glass.

1/2 cup orange juice (pulp free)
1 1/2 cups cranberry juice
1/2 cup Triple Sec
1 liter Club soda

Steps:

  • Pour the wine into a 2-quart pitcher.
  • Add the simple syrup, orange juice, cranberry juice, and Triple Sec.
  • Add cranberries and oranges. Top off the pitcher with club soda. You may not use the whole bottle.

3 cups pomegranate juice
5 (3") cinnamon sticks
1/2 teaspoon whole allspice
1 (4") piece peeled fresh ginger, thinly sliced (about 3/4 cup), divided
1 (750-ml) bottle red wine
1 Bartlett pear, quartered lengthwise, thinly sliced crosswise
1/2 cup pomegranate seeds
1/2 cup spiced rum
1 (750-ml) bottle pear or apple sparkling cider

Steps:

  • Bring pomegranate juice, cinnamon, allspice, and one-third of ginger to a simmer in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Cook 10 minutes, then remove from heat and let steep 10 minutes.
