  • ***** You can add 1/4 - 1/2 cup Stevia or Truvia if you want to sweeten even more, though not necessary :).
  • Place bottom pie crust in non-fat butter-flavor sprayed pie pan.
  • I place cut halves of apples (unpeeled! :) "face-up" around the pie crust, then I top those halves with remaining halves of apples and add additional halves and pieces as needed (usually 1 or 2 halves or pieces of halves'.
  • Pour remaining mix on top of apples and cover with top crust.
  • Be sure to put 2 or 3 cuts into top of pie crust.

  • Bake for 45 minutes, or until golden browned.
  • BEST SERVED AFTER BEING REFRIGERATED (***Awesome*** :).
  • I use an Almond Flour, "SHORTENING-FREE", Low-fat pie for a better pie crust: it's FAR lower in calories and fat and sugar-index.

NO SUGAR ADDED APPLE PIE

No Sugar Added Apple Pie image

My sister is boarderline diabetic and controls her sugar intake with diet. Here is an easy apple pie with all the flavour but non of the extra sugar.

Provided by Easy Baker

Categories     Pie

Time 50m

Yield 1 pie, 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

5 lbs apples
1/2 cup unsweetened orange juice
1 tablespoon lemon juice (or if you're like me, use 1 cap full)
2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
1 cup water
1 tablespoon cornstarch

Steps:

  • Clean, Peel and Dice some of the apples (2-3) and add to a 2 quart saucepan. Add orange juice, lemon juice and cinnamon. Allow to "stew" on medium heat for 5 minutes. This will make the apples soft and sweeten naturally in their juices.
  • Clean, peel and slice the rest of the apples and put the lid on with the heat on low for an additional 5 minutes.
  • Turn off the heat and mix the corn starch and water in a separate cup. Add to apples and stir. This will prevent the apple mix from being too thin and gloopy during the cutting process.
  • Add to the bottom crust of your favourate pie crust (be sure to perforate it with a fork first!), add filling and the top layer of dough.
  • Since the filling is still hot, the cooking time will be cut down; bake at 450 degrees for 25-30 minutes.
  • This pie is easily prepared and frozen to be cooked later.

Tips:

  • Use a variety of apples. This will give your pie a more complex flavor and texture. Some good choices include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Pink Lady.
  • Peel and core your apples thinly. This will help them cook evenly.
  • Don't add too much sweetener. A little bit of sweetness is all you need to balance the tartness of the apples.
  • Use a combination of flours. This will give your pie crust a more tender and flaky texture. A good choice is to use a combination of all-purpose flour and whole wheat flour.
  • Chill your pie dough before baking. This will help prevent it from shrinking in the oven.
  • Bake your pie until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling. This will take about 1 hour.
  • Let your pie cool completely before serving. This will help the filling to set.

Conclusion:

This all-natural whole apple pie is a delicious and healthy way to enjoy this classic dessert. It's made with fresh apples, a touch of sweetener, and a combination of flours to create a tender and flaky crust. The pie is also baked until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling, so you know it's done to perfection. Serve this pie warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra special treat.
