SAUCY PASTA ALL-IN-ONE POT

Saucy Pasta All-In-One Pot image

Not sure where I received this recipe, but it's perfect for a quick weeknight supper. For some reason, I always have a jar of spaghetti sauce in the fridge that I need to use the remainder of or throw away. Sometimes I add a bit of Italian seasoning for extra flavor. This dish cooks in one pot, so there is minimal clean up. Also, it's much healthier than Hamburger Helper.

ONE-PAN PASTA

One-Pan Pasta image

It's one of our most popular recipes and for good reason. This is our original one-pot pasta recipe, inspired by a dish one of our food editors ate in Puglia, Italy. All the ingredients cook together in a straight-sided skillet, you don't even need to boil water first-and it's on the table in just 20 minutes.

Provided by Martha Stewart

Categories     Food & Cooking     Ingredients     Pasta and Grains

Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 10

12 ounces linguine
12 ounces cherry or grape tomatoes, halved or quartered if large
1 onion, thinly sliced (about 2 cups)
4 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
1/2 teaspoon red-pepper flakes
2 sprigs basil, plus torn leaves for garnish
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for serving
Coarse salt and freshly ground pepper
4 1/2 cups water
Freshly grated Parmesan cheese, for serving

Steps:

  • Combine pasta, tomatoes, onion, garlic, red-pepper flakes, basil, oil, 2 teaspoons salt, 1/4 teaspoon pepper, and water in a large straight-sided skillet. Bring to a boil over high heat. Boil mixture, stirring and turning pasta frequently with tongs, until pasta is al dente and water has nearly evaporated, about 9 minutes.
  • Season to taste with salt and pepper, divide among 4 bowls, and garnish with basil. Serve with oil and Parmesan.

Tips:

  • Use a large pot or Dutch oven to ensure that there is enough space for the pasta to cook and absorb the liquid.
  • Measure the pasta and liquid accurately to ensure that the pasta is cooked properly and that there is enough liquid to prevent the pasta from sticking.
  • Bring the liquid to a boil before adding the pasta. This will help to prevent the pasta from sticking together.
  • Stir the pasta occasionally while it is cooking to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pot.
  • Taste the pasta before draining it to ensure that it is cooked to your desired doneness.
  • Add additional seasonings or ingredients, such as salt, pepper, garlic, or Parmesan cheese, to taste.

Conclusion:

One-pot pasta is a quick, easy, and delicious meal that can be made with a variety of ingredients. By following these tips, you can make a perfect one-pot pasta every time. This versatile dish can be customized to your liking, making it a great option for busy weeknights or casual gatherings.
