Time 20m

Yield Serves 4 (Serving Size: About 1/2 cup)

Number Of Ingredients 10

1/2 cup (about 2 7/8 oz.) fine yellow cornmeal
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon kosher salt, divided
1 large egg, lightly beaten
2 teaspoons water
8 ounces fresh okra, cut into 1/2-in.-thick rounds
Cooking spray
1/2 cup bottled white barbecue sauce

Steps:

  • Stir together cornmeal, flour, garlic powder, paprika, and 1/2 teaspoon of the salt in a shallow dish. Whisk together egg and water in a separate shallow dish.
  • Preheat air fryer to 400°F for 3 minutes. Meanwhile, dip half of the okra in egg mixture; remove okra, letting excess drip off, and transfer to cornmeal mixture, tossing to fully coat. Transfer coated okra to a plate. Repeat process using remaining okra.
  • Lightly coat air fry basket with cooking spray. Add okra to basket in a single layer; coat generously with cooking spray. Cook until golden brown and crispy, 12 to 14 minutes, tossing okra and coating with additional cooking spray halfway through cook time.
  • Remove okra from basket; sprinkle evenly with remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt. Serve immediately with barbecue sauce.

AIR FRYER OKRA "FRIES"

Air Fryer Okra

I love the taste of deep-fried okra. Sometimes though, I want to limit my carbs, so I make okra "fries". They give me the flavor of fried okra, but with far fewer calories, and much less fat. Okra "fries" are a tasty snack and they can be an interesting veggie side for dinner. I love to munch them, plain, as a snack. Serve with dipping sauce of your choice.

Tips:

  • Choose fresh, tender okra: Look for okra that is bright green in color and free of blemishes. The smaller the okra, the more tender it will be.
  • Wash and dry the okra thoroughly: This will help the batter adhere to the okra and prevent it from becoming soggy.
  • Slice the okra into 1/2-inch thick rounds: This will ensure that the okra cooks evenly.
  • Make sure the batter is well-seasoned: The batter should be flavorful enough to complement the okra without overpowering it.
  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket: This will prevent the okra from cooking evenly.
  • Cook the okra in batches if necessary: If you have a lot of okra to cook, cook it in batches to ensure that it cooks evenly.
  • Serve the okra fries immediately: Okra fries are best served hot and crispy. They can be served with a variety of dipping sauces, such as ranch dressing, ketchup, or honey mustard.

Conclusion:

Air fryer okra fries are a delicious and healthy snack or side dish. They are easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. With a little bit of planning, you can enjoy this tasty treat anytime you like.
