HOMEMADE CROUTONS IN THE AIR FRYER

Homemade Croutons in the Air Fryer image

Although store-bought croutons come in a resealable bag, they still get stale quick. Homemade are simple to make and taste much better. I started making them in the oven but if you turn your back for a minute they can go from soft to burnt. I needed a low-maintenance method so I came up with this air fryer recipe that works perfectly every single time.

4 slices white bread, cubed

½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon seasoned salt
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

  • Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Place bread cubes in a large mixing bowl. Whisk parsley, garlic powder, and seasoned salt into the melted butter and pour over bread cubes. Toss bread cubes with a rubber spatula until evenly coated. Let sit for 2 minutes for butter to absorb.

AIR FRYER CROUTONS

Homemade croutons are incredibly simple and quick to make, thanks to the air fryer! We added a touch of dried oregano and granulated garlic for a boost of flavor to complement a variety of salads, soups and other dishes. Feel free to remove the oil and seasonings altogether and follow the same method to dry out bread for stuffing, dressing, bread pudding and more--in less than half the time it would take with an oven.

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Time 10m

Yield about 3 1/2 cups

Number Of Ingredients 5

8 ounces country white, sourdough or whole-grain bread, cut into 3/4-inch cubes
1/4 cup olive oil
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon granulated garlic
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Toss the bread, olive oil, oregano, garlic, 3/4 teaspoon salt and several grinds of pepper in a large bowl until evenly combined.
  • Preheat a 6-quart air fryer to 350 degrees F. Add the seasoned bread cubes in an even layer to the air fryer basket. Cook, tossing halfway through, until golden brown and toasted, 5 to 6 minutes.

Tips:

  • For the best results, use stale bread that is at least a day old. This will help the croutons to get crispy and not soggy.
  • Cut the bread into cubes of uniform size so that they cook evenly.
  • Toss the bread cubes with olive oil, salt, and pepper before air frying. This will help them to brown and flavor.
  • Air fry the croutons in a single layer so that they can get crispy all over.
  • Shake the air fryer basket halfway through cooking to ensure that the croutons cook evenly.
  • Once the croutons are golden brown and crispy, remove them from the air fryer and let them cool on a wire rack.

Conclusion:

Air fryer croutons are a quick and easy way to add flavor and crunch to your favorite dishes. They can be used in salads, soups, casseroles, and more. With just a few simple ingredients, you can make delicious croutons that are perfect for any occasion.
