Time 22m

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 11

¾ cup all-purpose flour
½ cup cornstarch
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 large onion, cut into rings
1 cup milk
1 egg
1 cup bread crumbs
cooking spray
2 pinches garlic powder
2 pinches paprika

Steps:

  • Stir flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt together in a small bowl. Dip onion rings into the flour mixture until coated; set aside.
  • Whisk milk and egg into the flour mixture using a fork. Dip the floured rings into the batter to coat. Place on a wire rack to drain until the batter stops dripping.
  • Place bread crumbs in a shallow dish. Place rings one at a time into the crumbs and scoop the crumbs over the rings to coat evenly. Give rings a hard tap as you remove them from the crumbs; the coating should cling very well. Repeat with remaining rings.
  • Heat an air fryer to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) according to manufacturer's instructions. Place rings side by side in the frying basket. Spray lightly with cooking spray. Flip rings and place basket in the air fryer. Cook until rings are golden brown, 2 to 3 minutes. Flip once halfway through. Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with garlic powder and paprika.

Tips:

  • To ensure your onion rings are crispy, use a good quality air fryer and preheat it to the desired temperature before adding the onion rings.
  • Use a light coating of flour or bread crumbs to help the batter stick to the onion rings.
  • Don't overcrowd the air fryer basket, as this will prevent the onion rings from cooking evenly.
  • Cook the onion rings in batches if necessary, to ensure that they are all cooked through.
  • Season the onion rings with your favorite spices or herbs for extra flavor.
  • Serve the onion rings hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Conclusion:

Air-fried onion rings are a healthier alternative to traditional deep-fried onion rings, and they are just as delicious. They are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and they are perfect for serving as an appetizer or side dish. With just a few simple ingredients and a few minutes of cooking time, you can have a batch of delicious air-fried onion rings that the whole family will love. So next time you're craving onion rings, reach for your air fryer instead of the deep fryer.
