AFFOGATO
Crafting the perfect affogato is more than meets the eye. In fact, there's more science to the dessert than most would care to acknowledge. Using gelato boosts the incredible flavor, and gives a velvety, silky smoothness ice cream just doesn't have. This is because gelato has a lower fat content, less air, and is served at a different temperature than ice cream. Translation: if you use ice cream you'll end up with something less than perfect as the hot espresso will cause the ice cream to melt faster.

AFFOGATO WITH COLD-BREWED COFFEE
This was the best tasting iced coffee I've ever had. Since the flavors are extracted without heat, the results are a smoother, less acidic, less bitter product. You can use the coffee concentrate straight on ice cream or gelato for a classic Italian treat - affogato.

AFFOGATO
Steps:
- Place 2 small scoops of ice cream (coffee, chocolate or vanilla) in a coffee cup, then pour in a shot of espresso or 3 tablespoons strong brewed coffee. Top with shaved dark chocolate and chopped hazelnuts.
Tips:
- Use high-quality espresso. The flavor of your affogato will depend largely on the quality of your espresso. Use freshly ground coffee beans and a good espresso machine to ensure a rich, flavorful shot.
- Choose a flavorful ice cream. The ice cream you use should complement the flavor of the espresso. Some popular choices include vanilla, chocolate, and hazelnut.
- Don't over-stir. You want to create a swirl of espresso and ice cream, not a milkshake. Gently stir the espresso into the ice cream until it's just combined.
- Garnish with chocolate shavings or cocoa powder. This will add a touch of extra flavor and elegance to your affogato.
Conclusion:
Affogato is a simple but delicious dessert that is perfect for any occasion. It's easy to make and can be customized to your liking. So next time you're looking for a sweet treat, give affogato a try!
