My sister discovered this cake at a church potluck and asked the lady who made it for the recipe. Since then, it has been a favorite in our family and it is so super easy as well as tasty!

Time 1h9m

Yield 1 cake, 8-10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 (20 ounce) can crushed pineapple, undrained
1 (20 ounce) can wilderness cherry pie filling
1 (18 1/4 ounce) box white cake mix
1 cup margarine, melted

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Spray a 9x13 pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Dump the crushed pineapple (juice and all) into bottom of pan; make sure it is evenly spread on bottom.
  • Dump the cherry pie filling on top of the pineapple; make sure it is evenly spread on top.
  • Dump the dry cake mix over the top, spreading evenly across the top.
  • Melt the margarine in microwave (or stove top if you prefer).
  • Using a large serving spoon, evenly put melted margarine over top of dry cake mix, making sure it goes clear to the edge and the dry cake mix is covered. (You may not have to use all of the margarine. I just melt that much so that I will have extra in case I have trouble spreading it).
  • Bake for 60 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Check it often toward the end of cooking because it should only be golden brown and it is easy to get it too brown.

Tips:

  • Choose fresh and ripe cherries: Fresh cherries will give the cake a more vibrant flavor. If you're using frozen cherries, thaw them completely before using them.
  • Use a 9x13 inch baking dish: This is the standard size for a dump cake, but you can use a larger or smaller dish if needed. Just adjust the amount of ingredients accordingly.
  • Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing the batter will make the cake tough. Just stir until the ingredients are combined.
  • Bake the cake until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean: This usually takes about 30-35 minutes. If the cake is not done baking, continue to bake it for a few more minutes.
  • Serve the cake warm or cold: Cherry dump cake is delicious served warm or cold. If you're serving it warm, top it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Conclusion:

Cherry dump cake is an easy and delicious dessert that is perfect for any occasion. It's made with just four ingredients and can be prepared in just a few minutes. The cake is moist and flavorful, with a sweet and tart cherry filling. It's sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it!
